TravelMate — MTE Solutions Group
EFFECTIVE DATE: 11 MARCH 2026 · LAST UPDATED: 11 MARCH 2026
GOVERNING LAW: PRIVACY ACT 1988 (CTH) · AUSTRALIAN PRIVACY PRINCIPLES
1. OVERVIEW
MTE Solutions ('we', 'us', 'our') operates the TravelMate mobile application ('the App'). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and applicable Western Australian law.
By using TravelMate you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. WHAT INFORMATION WE COLLECT
2.1 Information you provide directly
- • Display name and account credentials (email address, password hash) when you register.
- • Chat messages you send within a group.
- • Location labels you attach when tagging a position ('Campsite', 'Fuel stop', etc.).
- • Fridge configuration settings (name, alarm thresholds) you save to the server.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- • Precise GPS location (latitude, longitude, accuracy, speed, bearing) — collected continuously in the foreground and background while location sharing is active and you have given consent.
- • Journey breadcrumb trails (sequences of GPS points recorded while travelling).
- • Fridge telemetry transmitted over Bluetooth: temperature, battery percentage, battery voltage, operating mode and setpoint. Stored on our server periodically (approximately once per minute).
- • Device identifiers required by the Android platform for push notifications.
- • Basic app usage logs (errors, crash reports) used to diagnose problems.
2.3 Information we do NOT collect
- • We do not collect your contacts, photos, microphone input, or any data outside the App.
- • We do not collect financial or payment information.
- • We do not use advertising SDKs or sell your data to third parties.
3. WHY WE COLLECT THIS INFORMATION
We collect and use your personal information only for the purposes set out below:
- • To provide the core App functionality — sharing your location with your travel group, displaying group members on the map, and delivering chat messages.
- • To store your journey history so you can review past routes.
- • To monitor fridge temperature and send alarm notifications to your group when a threshold is exceeded.
- • To manage your account, group membership and invitations.
- • To diagnose errors, improve reliability, and fix bugs.
- • To respond to support requests you send to us.
We will not use your personal information for any other purpose without first obtaining your consent.
4. LOCATION DATA — SPECIAL NOTICE
TravelMate collects precise, continuous GPS location data because sharing your position with your travel group is the primary function of the App.
- • Location collection only begins after you explicitly consent on-screen.
- • You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings → Location Sharing. Withdrawing consent stops new location updates from being sent; previously stored locations are retained until you request deletion.
- • Background location is collected while the App's foreground service is running. A persistent notification is shown whenever background collection is active.
- • Your location is visible only to members of your active group. It is never shared outside the group or sold to third parties.
5. HOW WE STORE AND PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION
- • All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+) between the App and our server.
- • Our server is hosted within Australia and protected by firewall rules and access controls restricting access to authorised personnel only.
- • Passwords are never stored in plain text. Authentication tokens are short-lived JWTs stored in encrypted device storage.
- • Bluetooth communication with your fridge occurs entirely on-device and is not transmitted to any third party.
- • We regularly review our security practices and update them as appropriate.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by law.
6. DISCLOSURE OF YOUR INFORMATION
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We may disclose your information only in limited circumstances:
- • To other members of your travel group — only the information necessary for group functionality.
- • To service providers who assist us in operating the App, bound by confidentiality obligations.
- • Where required or authorised by Australian law.
- • With your explicit consent for any other purpose.
We do not disclose personal information to overseas recipients unless we have taken reasonable steps to ensure they comply with the APPs.
7. DATA RETENTION
- • Account data: retained until account deletion.
- • Location history: retained for 90 days then automatically purged, unless saved as a named Journey.
- • Journey breadcrumbs: retained until you delete the journey.
- • Chat messages: retained for 30 days then automatically purged.
- • Fridge telemetry: retained for 30 days then automatically purged.
- • Crash / error logs: retained for 14 days.
8. COOKIES AND TRACKING
TravelMate does not use cookies, advertising identifiers, or any cross-app tracking technology. We do not display advertisements.
9. YOUR RIGHTS UNDER AUSTRALIAN LAW
Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles you have the right to access, correct, and request deletion of personal information we hold about you.
To make a request, contact support@mtesolutions.online. We will respond within 30 days. You may also withdraw consent for location sharing at any time through Settings.
10. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
TravelMate is not directed at children under the age of 15. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 15.
11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the last updated date at the top of this document and, where practicable, notify you within the App.
